German Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Christoph Retzlaff, has said corruption was still one of the major challenges being faced by Ghana amidst attempts by government to fight the menace.
According to him, although the government was set to issue proposals to tackle the situation, there were series of debts caused by corruption which cannot be overlooked any longer.
Ambassador Retzlaff said this during an interview with Class FM over the weekend.
He noted that Ghana and Germany have a long standing relationship which was rekindled by President Akufo-Addo’s visit to Berlin in June this year to have an intensive dialogue to boast governance and economy.
To this effect, he said, a group of high profile delegation will soon visit the country to continue with the discussion.
According to him, areas that Germany will seek to support Ghana will include developmental sectors, financial administration, agricultural and developing sustainable economy for the people of Ghana.
He stressed that these will help strengthen the economy and provide jobs for the youth.
Assessing Ghana in the light of Africa, the ambassador hailed the country, stating that Ghana was a front-runner in Africa in terms of governance and economy.
He urged government to be swift in putting out the said proposal to tackle corruption and was hopeful of the entrance of German investors into the Ghanaian job market.
On the issue of studying abroad, he hinted that students should be on the lookout for academic exchange programmes and follow the embassy for any job opportunities for the ordinary Ghanaian.
