A non- governmental organisation, Patients Friends Foundation (PFF) has organised free health screening exercise for residents of Akropong in the Eastern Region.
The exercise which was in partnership with the Humility Club of Akropong screened both the young and the old.
It was to support the annual Odwira Festival of the Chiefs and people of Akropong.
Over 700 people including traditional rulers, from Akropong and its environs were screened for Malaria, Hepatitis B, HIV, blood sugar level, blood pressure and had their Body Mass Index (BMI) also measured.
Residents were also educated on how to protect themselves against malaria, cholera and typhoid fever.
Mr Ben Ansah, the President and Founder of PFF, said his outfit had over the years enjoyed a good relationship with the people of Akropong and as part of their social responsibility, they decided to organise the health screening to check their health status.
In addition to fostering a stronger relationship between PFF and residents, Mr. Ansah said, he hoped to use the event as a platform to sensitize the community on prevention of diseases
“Majority of Ghanaians still have difficulty accessing basic healthcare and that must be a source of concern for us all. PFF is therefore on a mission to help address this issue to some extent. We hope to continue delivering on this mandate as the years come by because we owe it as a duty to this country the people”, he said.
While soliciting for support from corporate bodies and individuals, Mr. Ansah also entreated the general public to periodically go for medical check-ups.
