DISTRICT Chief Executive (DCE) of Prestea-Huni Valley District of the Western Region, Mr. Mozart Kwaku Owu, has initiated pragmatic steps to prevent the Golden Star Bogoso-Prestea Limited (GSBPL) from blasting gold bearing rocks from its concession in Prestea Nakaba.

Mr. Owu on Monday, October 16, 2017 led a team of Prestea Huni Valley District Security Committee (DISEC) to Prestea Nakaba community to inspect the “deadly mine blasting” on Friday, October 13, 2017 by GSBPL which affected about six households, including one of the best private basic schools in the community, Full Live Preparatory School.

GSBPL is a multi-national Canadian Gold mining company which has been operating in Prestea for close to two decades now.

The recent surface mining activities, which arelocated very close to the Prestea Nakaba community, have raised several complaints and wailings by community members, such as destruction of community water, air pollution, causing flooding of communities and a whole lot.

The current impasse has to do with deadly blastings in an open surface mining pit located very close to the community, which has raised a “huge safety threat to the community members”.

The last one on Friday caused cracks in buildings of about six prominent households, which made some community members move straight to the pit, thereby having confrontation with security officials of GSBPL who were on duty at the time.

Addressing the community, the DCE, Mr. Mozart K. Owuh, assured the community that his outfit will not sit down to allow such impunity to go on against his people. He ordered the NADMO Coordinator for the District to as a matter of urgency prepare a report on the incidence and table it at the Assembly by Wednesday, October 18, 2017.

Community Affairs Manager of GSBPL, Mr. Robert Gyemfi, entreated the Community Members report such incidences at his outfit instead of physical confrontation at the Mine Site as that can lead to further chaos.
