The 2017 edition of the Diwali Cup after a week’s break bounced back on Sunday October 15, 2017 at the Achimota Cricket Oval in Accra.
The one-week break is to allow some renovation works on the Achimota Cricket pitch. The resumption of the cup however, saw week 4 matches honoured, with week 3 matches pushed over the last matches before the final.
The league, which begun on Sunday, September 24, 2017 saw Dilmah hosting MMG in the early hours of the day.
Dilmah scored 224-8 with 48 extras and limited MMG to 74-10 in 12.2 overs. Dilmah therefore won the game by 150 runs with 46 balls left. Mukesh scored 75-40 and took 1 wicket.
MMG, who lost their opening match to BGC, had Panfeig making their highest run of the match, 28-21.
The battle between the two top teams later in the day on Oval A had Everest going away with 2 points. BGC won the toss and decided to bat first. They scored 130-7 while Everest scored 134-2 in 15.4 overs. BGC’s Amoluk Senbi scored 46-43.
However, Everest’s Bharani scored 51-36, while his team mate, Ramesh, scored 52-44.
Defending champions, Everest, continued their lead with 6 points while BGC follow with 4 points. Dilmah after winning 1 out of 2 matches occupy the 3rd spot with 2 points. GTA and MMG who have played 2 matches each lie 4th and 5th respectively with no point.
The Golden Dragon Casino, Osu, Everest Cricket Club will see week 5 actions on Sunday, October 22, 2017. Dilmah will play BGC in the morning while MMG host GTA in the afternoon.
The T20 league will see the two top clubs playing the finals after the single round robin.
