Paramount Chief of Enyan Denkyira Traditional Area in the Central Region, Osabarima Otsibu VI, has reiterated the need for stakeholders in education to commit a holistic attention to addressing myriad of problems facing basic education in the country.

It is imperative to fortify the foundation of every super structure, referring to the children at the basic schools as the foundation of a ‘Whole-Child’ education’.

‘’l am confident that the Free SHS System has come to stay though it is still early days yet, and much more efforts need to be committed by all stakeholders in education to help further improve education sector particularly, at the basic school level “, he said.

Nana Osabarima Otsibu VI made the call while addressing the annual Akwanbo Festival of the chiefs and people of Enyan Denkyira Traditional Area over the weekend.

The chief called for more investment into the basic educational sector in order to deepen content and improve infrastructure to curb the falling standards of basic education delivery in the country.

Osabarima Otsibu VI explained that though it was good that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo has introduced free SHS policy, more needed to be done at the basic level in strengthening the education delivery in the country.

According to him, many public schools in the country were not performing up to standard and that many parents preferred sending their children to private schools.

Osabarima Otsibu VI lauded the government’s efforts at fine-tuning the economy, particularly considering the giant implementation of the Free SHS policy and other social interventions like “Planting for food and jobs.”

He noted that the policy was a step in the right direction in revamping the economy and urged all and sundry, particularly the youth, to embrace the idea so that they could have the wherewithal to bank on to improve their livelihood status.
The chief further called for the involvement of Nananom’s representatives in those government flagship policies to articulate their views on such interventions.

The historic function, which was massively attended by people from all walks of life including academia, politicians and well- wishers, was chaired by Dr. John Kofi Mensah, an illustrious son from the area and the Managing Director of Agricultural Development Bank.
The occasion was also graced by other prominent Paramount Chiefs: Vice-President of the National House of Chiefs Daasebra Kwebu Ewusi VII and the Paramount Chief of Abeadze Traditional Area, Nana Okakaben Idun Andoh with Obrempong Nyamful Krampah II, the president of Central Regional House of Chiefs and Omanhen of Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area as the Special Guest of Honour.
