General Manager (GM), Elmina Sharks, Mr. George Wiredu, has announced that the club has no immediate plans of transferring  players ahead of the upcoming season which is due to begin in January next year.

According to him, the club’s determination of win the Ghana Premier League (GPL) title in their second season can only be achieved if they retain the current crop of players that helped the team to finish in 7th with an accumulated 42 points from 30 matches.

Notable players assumed to be protected by the club from being poached by other clubs are lead goal scorer for the just ended season, Benjamin Tweneboah, Felix Addo, who was part of Ghana’s squad, defender, Adams Farouk, and Emmanuel Ampiaw.

However, according to management of Sharks, they will do all it takes to keep the above players.

Felix Addo was in scintillating form ahead of his call-up to the national team.

Addo played in all of the Black Stars opening matches with mesmerising displays that saw him reap the defence of his opponents apart with some eye-catching performances.

His fellow teammate, Emmanuel Ampiaw, was part of the Black Stars Team B side that lost their last group A match against Nigeria.

Mercurial and nimble footed winger, Benjamin Tweneboah, who ended the season as the top scorer is also sought after by Swiss side, FC Sion, who are allegedly ready and poised to lure him out of Ghana.

He disclosed that the consideration available for the club now is to buy few players to beef up the squad.

He said the club identified some players in other premier league teams and the just ended WAFU tourney that could possibly join the team if the board and management of the club approve their request.

According to Mr. Wiredu, privileges and benefits players of Elmina Sharks are exposed to count among one of the best in the country and has therefore, vowed to capitalise on those to entice targeted players to help the current squad win the league next season.

He explained that “Everything is now in the hands of the board because “we already made our report for the just-ended season available to them. We can only act when we are given the green light to transact business on behalf of the club but I am very certain we are not going to sell any player this season.”

“We have identified few players which I am sure will help the team next season. They are fantastic players that could fit into the current squad. We will never change the team because our team is not bad at all. The players can testify to the treatment they enjoy here and I think it will be very difficult to see moving on,” Mr Wiredu added.

With only a season playing in the Ghana Premier League, Elmina Sharks is the only club in Ghana that can boast of an ultra-modern stadium fitted with the state-of-the-art facilities to meet international standards.

The club home ground was recently adopted by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the West Africa Football Tourney (WAFU) organising committee to co-host the competition.
