AGGRIEVED chiefs and people from various traditional areas in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region have launched a blistering attack on government over the poor state of the Mepe-Battor-Sege road.

According to the chiefs, they were fed up with the ‘failed and empty’ promises by successive governments to fix the roads in the district.

As a result, they served notice of their intention to stage a protest against the government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to compel it to refurbish the deteriorating roads within the district.

In an interview with Today over the weekend, the traditional rulers said that they carry sick people on motorbikes and bicycles to Battor Roman Catholic and Adidome Government Hospitals due to the deplorable nature of the road from Mepe-Battor-Sege, Juapong-Adidome and the Kpong-Aveyime.

The Mepe, Battor and Sege roads which serve as bypass through Aveyime and other surrounding towns and villages have been left in tatters.

The traditional rulers who spoke with Today included Volor, Juapong, Aveyime, Battor, Mepe, Dordikorpe, Alaboo Dofor Fordzoku, and Adidome.

According to them, the roads in the district have become death traps for both motorists and passengers.

Describing the three roads as election bait, they noted that various governments and their functionaries only spoke about the roads during elections and forget about them afterwards.

They, therefore, threatened to block the roads that connect Mepe to Sege as well as from Juapong-Adidome and the Kpong-Aveyime.

They revealed that drivers who ply the road see their cars breaking down more frequently as a result of the nature of the road.
