Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr David Asante Apeatu’s, attention has been drawn to the siting of a police station at Langba in the Ga South Municipality, Greater Accra Region.
According to residents of Langba, they cannot fathom why the said police station, which they have spent loads of money to build, would be named Dampasi Police Station in the Central Region.
Chief of Langba, Nii Buernortey Baako I, made these observations in a petition signed by him and issued in Accra. The petition was addressed to the IGP.
Nii Baako I stressed that they actually spent a lot of money on the project before they were later told that it was not for the Greater Accra Region but Central Region.
According to him, there was simmering tension between the people of Langba and Dampasi, following the contention over the police station.
But, Nii Baako I stressed that the police station is situated on the soil of Langba, and thus was under their jurisdiction.
“…Langba is under the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Area in the Greater Accra Region and not the Central Region as people are being made to believe,” he intimated.
He further noted that Langba police are supposed to be under the command of the Kokrobite District Police Command and not Nyanyano District in Central Region.
Nii Baako in the petition stressed that the people of Langba were in no way against the building of a new police station.
However, “what we want to state is that Langba people are not under Kasoa or Central Region, but rather under Greater Accra and so a police station in their town cannot be controlled by the Central Regional Command.
