PEACE is an essential ingredient in nation-building. In fact, nothing meaningful can be achieved without peace and stability in any community. Thus, suffice to say that peace, stability and development are intertwined.
THIS is why Today will not stop at the least opportunity to call on the good people of this country to eschew acts of violence and activities that will retard our progress— one of which is violent conflicts due to chieftaincy matters.
NO wonder development in the northern regions has not been as we all expect. The fact is that government can do it bit, but the fact remains that it will take the people of the three northern regions to ensure that development comes to their areas.
IT is in this vein that Today is elated at the peace march embarked upon by the youth of both the Abudus and Andanis last Monday in Yendi. The peace protest march was christened: “Diwumti” to wit “we are tired.” And there could not have been a better description for the peace demo than the obvious fact that the youth of Dgbon are tired of this long-standing impasse.
INDEED following the peace march, many Dagombas and well-meaning Ghanaians have applauded the youth of the two feuding factions—the Abudus and the Andanis.
The message they sent across was loud and clear—that they are tired of fighting and that it is about time both ethnic groupings united for their common good.
FURTHERMORE they used the opportunity to call on the Asantehene Otunfuo Osei Tutu II-led Mediation Committee to quicken the peace process so finality can be brought to the age-long conflict.
IN the view of Today, what the youth have done is an opportunity for the leadership of the two royals to set aside their differences and forge ahead in unity—for it is only when there is peace and stability will they be able to develop the Dagbon Kingdom.
