A non-governmental organisation, Safe Water Network, has constructed a water facility at an estimated cost of $100,000 for the people of Adawso and 50 other surrounding rural communities in the Akuapem North municipality in the Eastern Region.

The facility is to provide potable drinking water for the people and improve sanitation.

This, according to authorities, is expected to facilitate the attainment of Sustainable Development Goal six, which enjoins nations to ensure access to clean water and sanitation by 2030.

At a brief ceremony to commission the water facility, the chief of Adawso, Nana Sakyi Amoako, thanked the benefactors and gave the assurance that he would spearhead a culture of maintenance on the facility to last longer.

“Even if it will take us to provide security surveillance, we will do; water is life and anyone who gives you water has given you life,” he said.

Kurt Soderland, Chief Executive Officer of Safe Water Network, appreciated the partnership of the Adawso community and urged them to translate that into making the water and sanitation project a success.

He indicated that a percentage of the proceeds accrued from the sale of the water, would be channelled into improving sanitation in the area.

To the residents and traders, the provision of the water facility was timely, but appealed that it should be extended to the various households in Adawso and its environs.
