Family members of the two suspects who were shot dead by the police two weeks ago have commended Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase constituency in the Ashanti Region, Hon Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed, for helping them get justice for their murdered kinsmen.
It will be recalled that the Asawase MP who is also the minority chief whip after the incident called for an independent investigation into the killings.
On the floor of Parliament last week Friday, Hon Muntaka asked that the minister of interior be summoned before the House to answer questions relating to the murder, a plea which was accepted by the First Deputy Speaker, Joe Osei Wusu, who gave the minister twelve days to appear before the House.
He is expected to explain the circumstances under which the two men, who were in the custody of the police, were shot for allegedly escaping from cell.
“For us we will continue to pursue till we get justice for them. The minister of interior has either Tuesday or Wednesday to come and brief the House. Obviously, we will push for an independent investigation so that we don’t leave it to the police,” Hon Muntaka stated amid several nods of acceptance from the sobbing family members.
He however, pleaded with the youth of the area to be patient and not to do anything that would aggravate the situation.
“We will continue to use legitimate means to seek justice,” he assured.
The two suspects, thirty-eight-year-old Awudu Osman, and his accomplice, Lukeman Mohammed, were shot and killed on Thursday, November 7, 2017 while in police custody.
Names of Osman’s accomplices came up during the interrogation of a gang of robbers who alleged were supplied with arms by the two, hence their involvement in helping the police in their investigations.
The police alleged that Osman and his accomplices attempted to escape in handcuffs after their arrest.
Meanwhile, the family of Osman, also known as Awudu Ninja, says he is innocent.
