GN Bank ends DOL sponsorship

Official headline sponsors of the national Division One League (DOL), GN Bank, has indicated that they will not renew their sponsorship deal with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) when the 2018 season begins.

According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GN Bank, Mr Issah Adam, the bank will cease to sponsor Ghana’s second tier league after seeing out their three-year contract worth over GHȼ2.1million even though he is certain that their objectives and targets with their partnership with the league had been met.

He explained that GN Bank’s objective of reaching out to Ghanaians through sports development and most especially football has been achieved through their partnership with the division one league. He, therefore, urged other financial institutions to take up the mantle of supporting the league next season.

Speaking on Accra-based Happy FM, Mr Adam said: “We have undertaken our evaluation and have assessed our partnership with the league and we think it is proper we end our sponsorship deal. I think we are really satisfied with the outcome, it is just in status that led us to end our deal with the GFA.”

“We started it and have seen it through successfully. The Division One League was almost dead but our capital injection suddenly resurrected it and I think we have successfully done our bit to promote and develop football, especially for those playing in the lower leagues.”

“We have done so much for the league even to the extent that we organised an awards night for the players which was a novelty. Even though the division one league was fraught with so many anomalies, I still believe we had the best out of it,” the CEO of GN Bank indicated.

The sponsorship package, which was announced during the launch of the DOL at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra in 2015, was meant to make the Division One League more competitive to generate keen interest among football fans and also to challenge the participating teams to improve their standard to sustain its interest.
