A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed to allow Ghanaian students to engage in a recreational exchange programme with kids from China by the First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo.
The MoU, which was signed under the Rebecca Akufo-Addo Foundation, will see kids from China coming to Ghana to learn to play football and their Ghanaian compatriots also travelling to China to learn martial arts.
The signing ceremony, which was witnessed by Minister of State at the Ministry of Education, Professor Kwasi Yankah, and Ghana’s Ambassador to China, H.E. Edward Boateng, will afford Ghana the opportunity to bolstering and strengthening between Ghana and China.
The First Lady in a twitter post said: “the aim of the MOU is to organise a recreational exchange programme where ten Ghanaian children will be sent to China. They will be trained in martial arts and ping-pong and ten Chinese kids will come to Ghana to be trained in football.”
She noted that sports exchange serve as a common language that enhances mutual understanding and trust between different civilisations and countries.
She explained that China has emerged as the greatest trading partner of Ghana and was making significant impact across all sectors of the economy, a move that called for firming up relations beyond trade and politics but in sports.
“I am very excited about a lovely opportunity that will benefit Ghanaian children. An MOU between Ghana and China was signed under the aegis of my Foundation, Rebecca Foundation,” Mrs Akufo-Addo wrote in her post.
Ghanaians over the years have benefited from their 57 years smooth bilateral relations with the Chinese government in relation to sports. Monumental of the numerous benefits is the construction of a multi-purpose stadium in Cape Coast.
