Aliu Mahama Foundation to provide scholarships

Aliu Mahama Foundation would soon be providing scholarships to students to pursue higher education, Today newspaper has learnt.

Chairman of the Planning Committee for the 5th anniversary of the late Vice President, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, who revealed this in an interview, noted that the Foundation has plans to use funds available to take care of needy and brilliant students in society.

Speaking in an interview with journalists after a clean-up and tree planting exercise to mark the anniversary, Mr Asare Otchere-Darko said supporting needy students through their education will be the best tribute to the former statesman as he really believed in the pursuit of education as key to the nation’s development.

 

He said the planning committee in conjunction with the foundation have planned to use funds from the sale of memorabilia and paintings of the late vice-president to support the education and wellbeing of less-privileged in the Ghanaian society.

Mr Otchere-Darko, who expressed joy at the massive support the planning committee, had received from the people of Kumasi for the clean-up and tree planting exercise, said the contribution to the socio-economic development of the country by the late vice president was worth commemorating.

 

The clean-up and tree planting exercise was attended by members of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), members of the Aliu Mahama Foundation, and several individuals within the metropolis.

 

Son of late Aliu Mahama, Farouk Mahama, also expressed appreciation to the president and the people of Ghana for the honour bestowed on his late dad for the past five years.

He said the setting up of the foundation, coupled with the annual celebration, has greatly helped in immortalising his father in the minds of Ghanaians.
