Divisional Chief of Mbease-Nsuta Traditional Area in the Prestea Huni-Valley District of the Western Region, Nana Adu Panyin II, has appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo through the Western regional minister for the division of Prestea Huni Valley District and give Prestea its own separate district.
Addressing residents in Prestea recently when the Western regional minister paid a courtesy call on Golden Star Resources Limited, the renowned chief who was visibly worried by “the state of development” in the gold-rich area stated that “documents available showed large scale gold mining started working here as far back as 1896.”
Nana Adu Panyin II, who doubles as the President of Wassa Fiase Traditional Council and the acting Chairman of Apinto Traditional Council, quizzed why various governments have paid lip-service towards the development of the area. “Regional Minister, just look at the road you came by here,” he stated unhappily. He bemoaned that “Prestea got urban council before Tarkwa, but Tarkwa is now a municipal.
He added that “We don’t need any municipal, and they should divide the districts so that Prestea can get its own district.
