Black Stars Head Coach, Kwasi Appiah, wants African teams to get to the last four of the World Cup in Russia in 2018.

The continent will be represented by Senegal, Nigeria, Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco and they have been placed in groups that will let them face the likes of Colombia, Argentina, Russia, England and Spain in the first round of the tournament.

Of these five representatives, Senegal made the quarterfinals in 2002 to join Ghana and Cameroon as the only African nations to reach that stage. However, Appiah, in an interview with Metro Television, believes that the African teams should aim to go one better in 2018.

“I think it is about time one African country made the semi-finals of the World Cup. We should not go there just to participate. African countries should believe that now is the time to make a great mark.

The teams are strong but they need to prepare adequately. They should not think of relaxing after qualifying.”

Egypt is in Group A, Senegal find themselves in Group H, Tunisia is in Group G, Morocco is in Group B, Nigeria go to Group D.
