Residents of Kpando, Keta, Agloga, Afiedenyigba, Akatsi, Afloa, South Dayi, Dzodze, Ho, North, Central and South Districts in the Volta are seething with anger following the move by government to create another region in Volta.
The residents , Today gathered chased some members of Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) for the creation of Oti Region, traditional and religious leaders, chiefs and high profile politicians from the region.
Despite the support of four hundred (400) chiefs and opinion leaders, the petition submitted to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, calling for the creation of the proposed Oti Region out of the Volta Region, the citizens unanimously kicked against any attempt to split the Volta Region into two.
Describing the move aa “bad ”, the residents of these areas hinted of their intention to stage a massive demonstration in the coming days to register their displeasure against the government’s plan to divide the Volta Region.
They arrived at a consensus on the matter at a meeting held in Juapong yesterday.
Today further gathered that, a delegation will soon be sent to President Akufo-Addo to officially inform him of their position against the move to create new region.
The move to create new regions is in fulfilment of the NPP’s campaign promise to carve new regions out of the Brong Ahafo, Volta Western and Northern Regions.
Upon assumption of office, President Akufo-Addo created the Ministry of Regional Reorganisation and Development, headed by Mr. Dan Botwe to supervise the process.
Speaking in an interview with Today, the residents disagreed with President Akufo-Addo, and stated that “if access to the regional capital is the reason for the split, access to the capital can be improved by concentrating on roads and railways.
