IRATE residents at Dominase, a farming community in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region were yesterday on rampage following the siting of the new District Capital outside the area.
Consequently, the hundreds demonstrators served notice that they will make the area ungovernable for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s if he fails to site the Gomoa East District capital in Dominase.
Chanting ‘Jama’ songs, the demonstrators, holding placards with inscriptions such as “Dominase needs District capital”, “No Capital, No Vote”, Dominase Deserves it, ‘Dominase wants fair distribution,’ “Our MP Must Act Now”, “No Libi libi, No Lababa”, “We won’t agree,” among others.
The protest was part of mixed reactions towards what the residents described as “persistent failure on party of their MP” to intervene in the sitting of capital of the Gomoa East District capital in Dominase.
With a grim face, the demonstrators stated that on Thursday December 21, 2017, they went to their MP with some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP),and demanded his intervention in the matter.
According to the residents, Potsin a nearby community proposed for the siting of the new district capital does not have the required facilities and resources to qualify for district status.
The residents said Dominase has numerous facilities and as such set them ahead over its competitors.
“Facilities in the Dominase community include, district counsel office, a rural bank, district police headquarters , community market, cocoa depot, health centre and an 8 acres of land purposely reserved in the heart of the community for the new district.
“The Member of Parliament’s (MP) intention to remain neutral over the creation of the new district shows that Dominase really deserves the district,” they explained.
