The most anticipated awards show, People’s Celebrity Awards (PCA), was held over the weekend [Saturday, December 30, 2017] at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The event was witnessed by a packed crowd with personalities including Chairman and President of Groupe Nduom, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, Chief Executive Officer of Spyder Lee Entertainment, Dr Nana Kweku Nduom, and some celebrities including Kalybos, Ebony and Kuami Eugene.

Gospel musician, Gifty ‘Empress’ Osei, rocked the stage with her very own renditions of NDC’s ‘Onaapo,’ and Freedom by dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale.

Tweaking the lyrics of both songs to suit the gospel genre, the gospel artiste thrilled patrons of the awards ceremony with her ‘gospel’ version of both songs.
Supported by backing vocalists, who sang the chorus ‘Onaapo,’ Gifty Osei used the lyrics of the NDC campaign song to praise Jesus, indirectly stating no one can be compared to Him.
Gifty Osei switched to Shatta Wale’s latest hit- ‘Freedom’ song, with the backing vocalists singing the chorus, though they changed it to ‘Jesus.’ She added her usual creativity by including the phrase ‘I am that I am,’ while dancing to the live band music.
Ghanaians were also thrilled with exciting performance from Teephlow who slammed the Ghana Music Industry over their lackadaisical attitude towards musicians and how to promote the Ghana music industry.
The night also witnessed breathtaking performances from Ebony, Fancy Gadam, Kidi and Kuami Eugene which left the audience asking for more.
Speaking at the event, Chief Executive Officer of Spyder Lee Entertainment, organisers of the programme, Dr Nana Kweku Nduom, thanked the board and the staff of his outfit for making the second edition of the PCA a reality.
Announcing the winner on the night, Dr. Kweku Nduom said, “People’s Celebrity Awards is here to stay and will continue to support the entertainment industry.”
The controversial dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, won the ultimate award, the People’s Celebrity of the year and drove home a Dodge Sedan 2017 model vehicle worth $60,000.
Receiving the award, he thanked the organisers, and promised “to do more this year.”
The People’s Celebrity Award seeks to reward players and stakeholders in the entertainment industry for their immense contribution. The People’s Celebrity Awards was sponsored by GN Mobile Money with support from Endela, GN Electronics, Coconut Grove Hotels and powered by Spyder Lee Entertainment.
In all, Shatta Wale and Fancy Gadam topped the night with two awards each to their credit, while dancehall diva, Ebony, won the Favorite Female Musician award.
Speaking to some patrons after the event, they expressed excitement and congratulated the organisers for a good work done.
“This is my first time as this show and I have enjoyed every bit of the event. I actually enjoyed Teephlow’s performance and will not miss next year’s event,” one excited member of the audience disclosed.
