Deputy Western Regional Minister, Mrs. Gifty Eugenia-Kusi, has emphasised that Ghana needs an accelerated growth which requires that the public purse is properly managed.
Against this backdrop, she called on members of the Association of Educational Accountants–Ghana to make sure that the public purse is protected, well managed and accounted for in a transparent manner.
According to her, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been insisting on protecting the public purse and for that matter their contribution will be useful, especially now that the government was rolling out the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme.
She maintained that the role of the members in quality education delivery cannot be over-emphasised and that their work as accountants required constant and appropriate improvement and upgrades in capacity building, competencies and skills if the right impact on quality education delivery was to be achieved.
Mrs. Eugenia-Kusi, who was addressing members at their annual conference in Takoradi, Western Region, over the weekend, said that their involvement and support to accountability and transparency in managing public funds were crucial and mandatory.
She, therefore, deemed the theme chosen for the conference, “Compliance with the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921) – The Role of the Educational Accountants,” as timely and a step in the right direction.
Western Regional Chairman of CHASS, Mr. Victor Yanney, in his fraternal message called on members to cooperate with their heads to ensure the correct administration of the Act 921 in the performance of their duties. They must also cooperate with their heads to ensure that the guidelines for the implementation of the Free SHS education policy are properly complied with.
