Energy Commission has launched the Biogas Association of Ghana with the aim of providing non-pollution and renewable source of energy and also to produce rich organic manure which can supplement or even replace chemical fertilisers in the country.
Explaining the rational rebind the formation of the association, a consultant to Energy Commission, Mr Edem Bensah, said when “we talk of renewable energy, what people only recall is solar energy, but aside from solar, biogas is also a very key component in the renewable energy sector.”
For her part, the MP for Ablekuma North constituency and a board member of the Energy Commission, Hon Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, said biogas technology has served as a solution to changes with regard to waste management both domestically and commercially.
She added that using biogas to transform waste will not only make our environment clean but will also serve as a source of employment for the youth. She urged the energy commission to expedite action on the development of standards for biogas development.
