Twenty-three illegal small-scale miners [galamseyers] were on Wednesday, 10 January 2018, arrested at Domeabra in the Amansie East District of the Western Region by members of the Operation Vanguard taskforce.
The culprits will be arraigned at the Tarkwa Circuit Court on Friday, 12 January or Monday, 15 January, according to the police.
Narrating the details of the arrest to Class News, Superintendent Bright Boafo of the Domeabra Divisional Police, said: “Yesterday in the morning, 10 galamseyers were arrested from Domeabra in the Amansie East District of the Western Region and then in the evening around 3:00PM, 13 others were also arrested from different illegal mining sites. So, in all yesterday, 23 of them were arrested.
“Today the arresting officers, that is Operation Vanguard Taskforce, have reported here from their base in Tarkwa. They accompanied the galamseyers to the various sites where they were arrested for reconstruction of the scene, taking photographs and gathering evidence to allow the investigators to start their investigations and probably Friday or Monday, we should be able to arraign them at the Tarkwa Circuit Court.”
The Operation Vanguard Taskforce was formed to fight illegal small-scale mining in the country.
