TENSION is still mounting in Bimbila in the Northern Region although government has deployed a sizeable number of military and police personnel to maintain peace with regard to the bloody shooting incident where three persons were killed and seven hospitalised.

Speaking on Okay FM yesterday, Tamale Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr. Yusif Tanko, confirmed that there were recalcitrant residents from the feuding factions who still wanted to take the law into their hands to cause another violence in Bimbila.

According to him, the two persons who were arrested on Saturday, January 13, 2018 in connection with a shooting incident had denied knowledge of the shooting incident during their caution statements with the Tamale Regional Police Command.

He noted that apart from the two suspects, who were arrested, there are two other persons who were on the police list for arrest but were currently on the run.

He revealed that the two suspects would be arraigned before court on Thursday, January 18, 2018

According ASP Tanko, the Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has reinforced security in the Bimbilla traditional area.

Scores of military and police personnel left Tamale yesterday for Bimbilla, to augment the operations of the team there.

This is to avert any untoward situation in the area.

He asserted that the ministry of interior reviewed the curfew it imposed on the Bimbilla township following recent reports of sporadic gunfire   in the area.

The curfew, which previously spanned six hours from 10:00 p.m., to 4:00 a.m., according ASP Tanko, had been reviewed to the period from dusk to dawn effective, Friday, January 12, 2018.
