Ministry of Transport has refuted reports in the media that it has ordered that all Uber vehicles be rebranded as taxis.
The ministry in a statement copied to Today said the decision to rebrand all Uber vehicles was not part of the consensus reached at a meeting between Uber and taxi drivers and the ministry.
A section of the media reported that the ministry had agreed on a directive to the effect that all Uber vehicles be branded as taxis in a month.
The report stated further that the order was given at the said meeting held on 10th January 2017.
“That NEVER has there been such a directive from the Minister of Transport regarding the rebranding of Uber vehicles as Taxis and that whoever put out such information was most the public,” the statement signed by the Public Relations Officer to the Ministry, Gloria Holmes-Graves read.
According to her, the meeting was to deliberate on other issues such as Vehicle Income Tax and Road Worthiness.
