LEADING public transport service providing giant, Metro Mass Transit (MMT) Limited, has stated that the current on-going changes in the positions of workers of the company is not “witch-hunting and politically-motivated.”
The reshuffle, according to the company, was a strategic decision taken by the management to help restructure various policies and programmes of the company as envisaged by the Managing Director (MD) of MMT, Mr. Mr. Bennet Aboagye, to provide reliable, safe and efficient mass transport services by road in the sub-region.
Speaking in an interview with Today yesterday, Corporate Communications Manager of MMT, Mr. George Krobea Asante, asserted that the move was to ensure full utilisation of human resources needed to improve productivity in the company.
According to him, during the courtesy call on the MD by the divisional union of Metro Mass Transit workers, Mr. Aboagye informed them that there was going to be some form of re-assignment and promotions and transfer of the workers in order to restructure and transform the company into a world-class mass transport company.
“So the transfer and re-assignment of the workers is not a secret to the workers, so people should stop reading political meaning to this because it is a strategic decision to make the MMT work again,” he told Today.
Mr. Asante denied that his promotion as to head Corporate Communications of MMT was influenced by the presidency, saying “my promotion was done by the management of MMT.”
“I have been working for Metro Mass Transit for the past five years, although I was a former president of Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) Tertiary Education Students Confederacy (TESON) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), I am not playing politics with my professional duties,” he stressed.
