THE state Security apparatus particularly, the Military High Command, the Police Administration and the National Security, need to come out and assuage the fears of many a good number of Ghanaians, who, in a way, are feeling insecure following recent attacks and killing of uniform personnel (police and military personnel).
WHAT is even precipitating our clarion call for our security agencies to take charge of security in the country follows last Sunday’s Rambo-style attack on the Kwabenya Police Station, which incident led to the death of one police officer. May his soul rest in peace!
TODAY is of the view that such a move by the military, police and National Security top hierarchy will allay our fears and put fear rather in the armed robbers out there that their days are numbered. This, we suggest, must be done by the three state security agencies holding a joint press conference to make known their unwavering commitment to pursue and deal ruthlessly with criminals out there, besides safeguarding our lives and properties.
WITHOUT any demur Today must point out that these attacks on our security agencies have the potential of scaring away potential investors from our country. We have heard that the police have rounded up about two hundred suspects in connection with the killing of Inspector Emmanuel Ashilevi and the breaking of a cell at the Kwabenya Police Station in Accra at dawn last Sunday.
ACCORDING to the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mrs Effia Tenge, the police have begun screening the suspects arrested during the swoop. She went on to affirm that the search for the escapees continues unabated and credible information from the public that will lead to the arrest is welcome.”
MEANWHILE, the police has offered to give GHc15,000 to any person who would volunteer information that would lead to the arrest of any of the six alleged armed robbers who raided the Kwabenya Police Station and killed a cop and freed seven suspects in custody. For us at Today we would continue to urge the police not to rest until these alleged armed robbers are apprehended.
AND that will no doubt require our support. It means that we should be on the look out for these armed robbers and their escapee colleagues.
WE should understand that these are hardened criminals who have been let loose and can therefore, strike at us anytime. Thus, we, once again, reiterate the point that our security agencies, especially the police, needs to be well-equipped to be always combat-ready to fight crimes domestically.
