Minister of Aviation, Madam Cecilia Dapaah, has issued a word of caution to developers and encroachers to stay off lands belonging to the Ghana civil Aviation Authority.

According to her, no permits should have been given to developers who had their properties 150 metres close to the navigation sight which houses sensitive equipment belonging to the company.

The minister made this known when she together with some officials of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Ghana Airports Company Limited and the East Legon Police Command, embarked on a working visit to access the extent at which lands belonging to the authority have been taken over by developers.

She indicated that no compensation will be paid to any developer who will have his or her property demolished.

During the visit, it was revealed that some encroachers were busily developing lands around the navigation aid with some being high-rise buildings.

Meanwhile the Director General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Simpson Allotey, has explained the effect of high-rise buildings on the navigation sight. He said when high-rise buildings get interacted with the very high frequency Omni directional radio range (VOR), it affects landings of aircraft, which may cause accidents.

He added that legal actions would soon be taken against the encroachers to ensure that unauthorised buildings are demolished.
