Prestea Huni-Valley District Assembly (PHVDA), a gold mining community in the Western Region, has used part of Minerals Development Fund (MDF) to start the construction of two vital projects that will culminate in the betterment of Prestea and its environs.

District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Mr. Mozart K. Owuh, disclosed this when he cut a sod for the construction of the second phase of a four-unit classrooms block at Prestea Senior High Technical School on Monday, January 21, 2018.

Addressing the gathering, the DCE who was assisted by the Divisional Chief of Prestea Himan Traditional Area, Nana Nteboah Prah IV, noted: “we have cut sod for the second phase of a four-unit classroom with ancillary facilities. I, early on, cut sod for the construction of 1 No. 2 Cell Pipe Culvert at Prestea-Himan.”

He noted that the assembly initiated the projects, which were funded by MDF, after effective consultation of the District Works Department of the Assembly.

According to Mr. Owuh, the 75% of the workforce of the projects would come from Prestea and its environs.

“The district has seen it wise to give back to the people whose land minerals are taken from,” Mr Owuh added.

“In addition to this, my government has also selected two Senior High Schools in Prestea Huni-Valley District to benefit from a 12-Unit Classroom block each. I am happy to announce to you that Prestea Senior High School and Huni-Valley Senior High School have been selected,” he disclosed.

The duration for the two projects is 8 months, and the contractors are getting ready to commence any moment from now, even that of Huni-Valley will start work tomorrow,” the DCE added.

He noted that all these are efforts by the government of President Nana Dankwa Akufo-Addo to ensure that its flagship programme, “the fantastic” Free Senior High School (SHS) education policy, continues from glory to glory.

The workaholic DCE further “thanked Gold Star Bogoso-Prestea Limited (GSBPL) for commencing the second phase of a project it has started earlier.”

This goes to affirm government and stakeholder’s commitment to improving the quality of education in the district.

He also welcomed the new headmaster, Mr. Samuel Nana Amoh, stressing “this to me, is a good sign for the new headmaster who has just arrived.”

“You will succeed if you relate well with stakeholders,” he admonished the new headmaster.  For his part, Divisional Chief of Prestea-Himan Traditional Area, Nana Nteboah Prah IV, pleaded with the contractor to “work hard within the stipulated duration given” to ensure the projects get completed as scheduled.

“I am grateful to the DCE and the Assembly for this important project,” the revered chief added.

The headmaster, Samuel Nana Amoh, was amazed at the rousing welcome he was given, and expressed: “I thank the DCE for this important project.”

The DCE and his entourage headed to the Prestea Urban Council to interact with council members over the impending elections of the council chairman.
