A GH¢366,000.00 classroom block has been completed for the Old Abirem District Assembly Model School to create more space for effective teaching and learning.
The structure comes with computer laboratory, library, head teacher’s office and storeroom.
Newmont Akyem Development Foundation (NAKDeF) provided the funding for the project.
Executive Secretary of the Foundation, Mr. Paul Apenu, handing the building over to the community at a well-organised ceremony, expressed that it would go a long way to enhance academic performance of the children.
He asked the people to show ownership of the project by seeing to its proper maintenance.
He used the occasion to underline the determination of the foundation to ensure fair distribution of development projects across the communities in the mining area.
He reminded all to use dialogue to peacefully resolve whatever problems and grievances they might have with the mining company.
District Education Director, Mr. Joseph Bebaako, presented to the school two laptop computers to aid the teaching of information and communication technology (ICT).
He advised the teachers to show love and passion for the job they were doing to raise the quality of education in the area.
Head teacher of the school, Mr. Dickson Oppong Baah, pleaded for the construction of teachers’ bungalow to end their struggle with accommodation.
For his part, the Chief of Abirem, Obrempong Kwesi Amoh Kyeretwie, applauded the foundation for the giant strides it was making towards the development of education in the area.
He asked that it went the extra mile to create job opportunities for the many unemployed young people.
