Heptathlete, Margaret Simpson, has picked up the gold medal at the ongoing Ghana Athletics Association Circuit Championship at the Essipon Stadium in Sekondi.

The 3-time Africa Athletics championship gold medalist won the Women’s Javelin division with an impressive throw of 50.30 metres.

Speaking to reporters after she was crowned, Margaret remained coy about her participation in the upcoming 2018 Commonwealth games which will be held in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

The 36-year-old Ghanaian won bronze medal at the 2005 World Championships in Götzis, setting several personal bests in the process.

Other winners include Faustina Amoah who displayed a scintillating performance to beat defending champion Rafiatu Nuhu in the Women 400m final.

Rafiatu, whose personal best time was 53.53 secs in the championship last year was dethroned in the race she run 56.16secs.

Faustina Amoah, based in the Western Region finished with a time of 55.49secs to topple Rafiatu who broke down in tears after surrendering her status.

The event also saw Malik Yakubu losing his 10,000m Championship status to Kwame Adjei.

Duncan Agyemang, a student of the University of Cape Coast also emerged the winner of the Men’s 400m final.

With a time of 47.27secs, Duncan shocked all to emerge the new winner of the 400m event despite not being the overwhelming favourite before the start of the event.

Duncan who looked very cool after the race had earlier, last week competed at the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games held in Tamale.

Duncan is expected to better his time in subsequent GAA games to beat the qualification time for the 2018 Commonwealth Games to be held in Australia in April this year.
