Minister for Railway Development, Joe Ghartey, has revealed that engineers are preparing the final design for the rail lines from Kojokrom in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis to the Mpohor District in the Western Region.
He added that work will soon begin on those lines once the final designs, which, he said, are almost completed, are handed over to the ministry.
“Those in Tarkwa have already seen the rehabilitation works ongoing at the Tarkwa Train Station. Currently engineers are preparing the designs from Kojokrom northwards. Very soon they will finish with the final designs. This will allow the contractors to start working.”
He was speaking to journalists on the sidelines of a thanksgiving church service in his honour.
The Bethany Methodist Church at Essikadu, a constituency in the Western Region, he has served as a Member of Parliament for the past 12 years, held the service.
The former Attorney General was also honoured for distinguishing himself in his area of endeavours and in so doing bringing honour to his constituency.
The service was also to appreciate God for choosing Mr. Ghartey as the person to superintend over the revival of the country’s collapsed rail sector.
The church views his appointment as very significant considering the fact that there was a symbiotic relationship between Essikado and railways.
Led by the Diocesan Bishop Rt. Rev. De-Graft Brace, the church asked for God’s special favour and guidance to give the minister the strength and wherewithal to effectively executive his mandate.
He advised Mr. Ghartey to, as a Christian, emulate the life of Jesus Christ in all his dealings as that will help him go about this duties effortlessly.
According to him, the task before Mr. Ghartey was a huge one which will require prayers always to help him succeed.
Hon Joe Ghartery, who was accompanied by his wife and four children, was grateful for the honour done him and his family.
He promised to work to the glory of God and to bring honor to Essikado-Ketan.
In attendance were the Omanhene of the Essikado Traditional Area, Nana Kobina Nketsia V, Paramount Chief of Lower Dixcove, Nana Kwesi Agyemang IX, deputy Western Regional Minster, Mrs. Gifty Eugenia Kusi, Mayor of Sekondi Takoradi, Anthony K.K Sam and some constituency executives of the ruling New Patriotic Party.
