Progressive People’s Party (PPP) will on Saturday, October 21, 2017 hold its 4th National Convention in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.
The event which is on the theme: “Election of MMDCEs for Rapid National Development” will take place at the New GNAT Hall in Bolgatanga.
According to a statement signed by the party’s National Chairman, Nii Allotey Brew-Hammond and issued to Today over the weekend, the PPP said, the
Convention would include a strategy session on the proposed local government election which will be held the night before the convention, to map out plans for all levels of Metropolitan/Municipal/District Assembly elections in 2018 and beyond, and the review of strategies for election 2020.
The national Chairman, national secretary and national treasurer, the PPP in the statement said would give presentations on their stewardship in the last election.
“The National Convention shall be the gathering of party members from Constituency, Regional, National and Diaspora branches”, the statement said.
To this end, the statement urged all PPP members and supporters to continue with the polling station organization, constituency and regional elections to prepare grounds for the national election.
“The PPP is the party of choice in election 2020”, the statement said.
Meanwhile, the PPP in another statement signed by its chief scribe, Murtala Mohammed and issued to the media has declared this month as “Black October”.
As part of the month-long activities, the statement outlined a number of activities for party members, supporters and sympathisers as well as the general public.
According to the statement, October 6, 2017 will be used by the party to mark Eva Lokko’s Candle Night Vigil at the Asylum Down headquarters of the PPP while October 10 will mark the day the Electoral Commission (EC) disqualified the party’s 2016 presidential candidate, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom from participating in the Presidential Election.
Explaining further on the ‘Black October month’ , the statement said, the PPP had described ‘Black October’ as a scar on Ghana’s democracy.
In view of this, the statement said, all PPP offices across the country should hoist a black flag on their premises whilst party officials should be clad in black
The statement also indicated that on October 12, 2017, the party would organise a Dialogue Day, and on October 13, 2017 hold an encounter with the media .
It urged the party communicators to use the commemoration to remind Ghanaians of the discrimination, and the treachery of the EC to the party’s well-being.
The statement further pointed out that on October 14, 2017, the party would organise a “Court Day or Ayi Kwei Otoo’s Day and on October 28, 2017, a High Court Victory Day, where party executives and members would be in their white and red attires.
On October 31, 2017 the statement said, the party had described it as Juda’s Day to mark an Act of Betrayal and bad faith by the EC and on November 4, 2017, the statement concluded, the party would mark the Supreme Court Ruling –Final Victory Day.
