SOME drivers and residents of Battor, Aveyime and Mepe in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region have threatened to demonstrate against bad road network in the area.
Speaking to Today on Monday October 9, 2017 the aggrieved drivers and residents mentioned that the district had not seen any improvement in the road network, especially, the one that connects the area to Sege, a situation they claimed has made it difficult for them to transport their farm produce to nearby communities.
According to them, several appeals to successive governments for assistance had not received any positive response.
“We have been neglected for a long time. Politicians come and only give us empty promises that the roads have been awarded on contract but nothing happens,” they claimed.
They lamented that the three traditional areas have to endure some difficulties during rainy season.
The residents especially pregnant women, who spoke to Today said, “some people had lost their lives on the road because drivers were unable to take them to hospital.
“We are calling on the government to fix the road for us which will open up our communities to Tema to enhance our economic and social wellbeing,” they stressed.
According to them, the rehabilitation of the roads would further “attract investors to this area which will create jobs for the youth because despite the very poor nature of our roads we can still boast of banana and rice farms”.
