Defeated Braimah Kamoko, popularly known as Bukom Banku, has called for a rematch against Bastie Samir after the latter knocked him out in a non-title light cruiserweight bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday, October 21, 2017.
Bukom Banku said he will relish a rematch against Samir on Ghana’s Independence Day to redeem his image which was bruised in the 7th round of the bout that witnessed a massive attendance including former World Champions, Azumah Nelson, and Ike Quartey.
Speaking for the first time after his maiden defeat on Accra-based Kasapa FM on Monday, 23 October, 2017, Banku said he has accepted his defeat but wants a rematch which Bastie proposed after the bout.
“I’ve lost the fight, but this is not a correct loss. Bastie Samir is the winner but this is not a correct loss. I’ll come back for a return fight on the sixth of March. When I defeated Ayitey Powers, he came for a rematch so Bastir has beaten me and I’ll come back for a return bout,” Banku said.
“I have accepted I lost the fight. Bastie is a good fighter and he beat me fair and square. I have seen my mistakes and I want to fight him again on the 6th of March. I am not feeling bad that I lost because all the great fighters have lost before even Azumah Nelson. So I am going to correct my mistakes and come back, “Bukom Banku added.
Meanwhile, trainer of Bastie Samir, Ofori Asare, has disclosed that Bukom Banku can only be guaranteed a rematch if the latter agrees to fight at the light heavyweight division.
Samir moved up in weight to face Kamoko at cruiserweight but managed to shock Bukom Banku.
“We are ready to give Bukom Banku a rematch, but we will do that on one condition and it is if Bukom Banku will agree to fight at the light heavyweight,” Ofori said.
“Samir is a super middleweight boxer and he moved up in weight to challenge Bukom Banku and he won so it will be proper if Bukom Banku wants a rematch he should also come down to Samir’s weight which is either super middleweight or light heavyweight,” he added.
