Ghanaian boxers who lined up against their fellow West African opponents failed to impress the numerous fans that thronged to the Bukom Boxing Arena to support them.
Dubbed as the ‘Bukom Beat Down’ and organized by the Kalakoda Boxing Promotions and Kwesé Friday Fight Nights, Ghana won only a single bout against their Cameroonian and Ivorian pugilists.
Sie Palenfo from Ivory Coast was able to earn himself a draw with an impressive display against Daniel Lartey of Ghana for the vacant WABU Welterweight Title.
Lartey started the fight in a very frenzy mood forcing Palenfo to retract to the corner on few occasions to aid him recover from the barrage of punches which could have resulted in early knockdown. A left hook from Lartey in the third round looked to have finished off the fight but Palenfo proved very unwavering to push the fight beyond round 3.
With fatigue beginning to set in for Lartey, Palenfo bounced back in round 4 to haunt Lartey with swift and quick jabs amidst running in the ring to avoid any threats from Lartey who was only looking for a hard punch to knockdown the Ivorian.
Palenfo could have sealed victory against Lartey in round 7 when he landed a big left hook to the chin of Lartey but could not follow up on what seemed to have dazed the Ghanaian who from all indications had lost the home support he enjoyed during the early stages of the bout.
Both boxers finished the fight 95-95, 95-97 and 97-95.
Cameroonian Christian Ndzie Tsoye was the second to shock the Ghanaian fans when he knocked out Nii Ofei Dodoo in a six round cruiserweight bout. Beaming with confidence ahead of the bout, Dodoo did very little to counter Tsoye’s bombardment of punches in the second round.
A right upper cut to the chin of Dodoo stopped him from continuing the fight much to the disappointment of his teeming supporters who were clad in the Ghanaian national flag and all black outfits. The referee decided to end the match when Dodoo failed to respond to his count.
Salif Ndjikam also from Cameroon won his six round junior middleweight bout in the main event of the night against Moses Lartey. Focused and determined Ndjikam fought hard and dominated throughout the fight to win on all the scorecards of the judges.
Abraham Tabul won by a second round knockout against Stephen Abbey while Wasiru Mohammed also knocked Emmanuel Out in all Ghanaian affair.
With a monthly frequency of events and a brand that is taking a well-packaged boxing product to host cities across the continent, the Kalakoda Promotions and Kwesé Sport partnership has really breathed new life into African Boxing.
