GoPharma App, designed to connect trained pharmacists in the cities with untrained staff in rural pharmacies, to aid the distribution of medicine in rural areas has won the Sandoz Health Access Challenge (HACK).
According to the App developer, Elvin Blankson, “The App is helping patients in diverse ways, as we have qualified doctors and expertise on board, who are responding promptly to questions. This is bridging the gap between travelling long distances to the cities or towns to meet a pharmacist or get pharmacy shops, and it is in line with bridging the gap between traditional healthcare,” he stated.
“There had been series of questions from patients and through the ‘GoPharma’ App they have been able to get solutions from doctors and trained pharmacists that were helping tremendously,” he added.
The Sandoz Hack Challenge was to generate ideas to solve healthcare in countries and Elvin Blankson’s ‘GoPharma’ App for Ghana emerged winner.
The international competition saw over 150 participants across 30 countries competing to get new ideas of tackling healthcare to improve the health of communities.
Mr Blankson said the whole idea of the App was to build a team of experts to expedite healthcare actions. The App concept is currently being piloted via WhatsApp in Greater Accra, Brong Ahafo and the Eastern Regions providing a platform for testing before its launch next year.
In a press briefing with Senior Executive from Sandoz, Fiona Cook, said they were committed to supporting healthcare and to give more capacity building to enhance healthcare in societies
While in Ghana, the executives of Sandoz will be meeting with Chief Executive of World Child Cancer, Jon Rosser, to know how the recent expansion of their partnership was helping support children with cancer in the country.
